Yep, I'm new to the game of hunting deer, and I found this book very thorough in introducing me to the topic of hunting deer. The author has a very succinct approach along with a few anecdotal stories to emphasis his points well. I highly recommend this book to those looking into learning about deer hunting.
Learn good tactics on the bruiser of a lifetime
This is a great book to just read in general. It does get repetitive at certain points but it does cement the basic knowledge you need to know when bagging a B&C buck. Great read if you're a hunter or just an avid reader.
This is the second best hunting book i have read. It gives a wealth of knowledge from experience as well as from animal behavior studies, statistics, and biology. It is useful for beginners as well as experienced hunters. Well worth reading.
Being pretty new to hunting and only having 2 full seasons under my belt I felt that I didn't really have the knowledge required to be an effective hunter. My confidence in the field wasn't all that high and I was looking for a good book that could fill me in on all the things that I didn't understand. After reading the reviews on this book I decided that this was the one I was looking for and WOW I was right!
Everything is covered in this book! After reading it I really feel like I have a much better understanding of whitetail behavior, plus, I'm much more confident. It's not just about deer either; it addresses so many other aspects of hunting. It covers, gear, firearms, proper shot placement, and that's just for starters.
I can't wait until this fall for deer season. I know the only way to become a true veteran hunter is to spend years in the field, but this book will certainly give you a boost if you're looking for some good knowledge!
I bought this for my husband, who does not like to read at all. To my surprise, he loved the book! He said the author did a great job on explaining the process of hunting deer from A to Z. He said that some of the book was information he had heard before, but the rest was interesting details he never would have thought of! I think it turned out to be a great gift!
I'm a beginner and this book is a great place to start. I have also met a lot of long-time hunters who could probably benefit from it as well...
While the setting is usually Midwest or Northern Midwest, the author does account for differences in climate from North to South and the resulting differences in deer behavior, activity, diet, seasonal timing, etc...
